Services are comprised of 24 hour inpatient care, Monday to Friday outpatient departments, several specialist community teams inclusive of Transitional Aged Care, Aged Care Assessment Team, Geriatric Flying Squad, Young Onset Dementia, 7 day a week day centre, 24 hour accommodation service for regional guests and the full range of hospital support services. A permanent part-time opportunity presents for a suitably experienced specialist Infection Prevention & Control (IPC) nurse authorised to function with an extended autonomy of clinical decision-making within IPC at War Memorial Hospital (WMH). The IPC Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) 2 role is the WMH site lead in IPC, providing leadership and expert advice to the sub-acute inpatient unit, clinical non-admitted services, non-clinical support services and facility management on the WMH campus.
This role has supported oversight of the quality and governance aspects of IPC, including ensuring compliance with the relevant NSW Ministry of Health, South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD) policies, prescribed auditing schedule and the requirements of Standard 3 of the National Safety Quality Healthcare Service Standards for hospital accreditation purposes. The role oversees the management of pre-employment Occupational Screening and Vaccination, alongside the management of any occupational exposures.
The role is well supported by the WMH NUM, Senior Nurse Leadership team, WMH Executive including WMH Quality & Governance Manager and is professionally networked with SESLHD Infection Control resources and IT systems.
This role reports to and is under the direct supervision of the Nurse Unit Manager of the Morgan in-patient unit, with an operational reporting line to the Clinical Operations Service Manager/DDON role.
This position is permanent part time @ 24 hours per week across Monday to Friday (days/hours negotiable).
Selection Criteria:
Current unrestricted Registered Nurse with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia (AHPRA)
A minimum of 3 years full time equivalent post registration experience and in addition holds a post graduate qualification relevant to the clinical speciality e.g. Infection Prevention and Control; Statement of attainment of Immunisation for Registered Nurses and Hand Hygiene Australia Gold Standard Auditor or willingness to work towards same or other qualifications or equivalent experience deemed appropriate by WMH
Understanding the management of Occupational Exposures and pre-employment Occupational screening and Vaccination
Demonstrated ability to lead and implement IPC policies, principles and compliance requirements in the context of sub-acute clinical care and service delivery
Demonstrated ability to exercise autonomy of decision making while also working effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and engaging with relevant IPC professional networks eg SESLHD, Uniting and others as relevant
Demonstrated understanding of Quality and Safety elements relative to IPC portfolio, including quality assurance, quality improvement, relevant components of NSQHS National Standards, Hand Hygiene Australia audits and WHS Profiling
Demonstrated high level interpersonal skills including written, verbal and presentation formats ensuring clear communication of key messaging for clinical and non-clinical audiences
Demonstrated competence in the use of MS Office suite, health related IT systems and databases for input, analysis and report generation
