The Organisation
You will be working in a busy acute care facility with 211 beds, which provides emergency care, medical, surgical and orthopaedic services to around 22,000 patients each year. The hospital has an Intensive Care Unit that incorporates High Dependency and Coronary Care beds and also provides Emergency Department services. As well as these clinical services, the hospital has a busy Obstetric Unit and provides services for children under 16 years of age.
The hospital is affiliated with the University of Wollongong and supports the training of Nursing, Medical and Allied Health staff. As such there are teaching and research opportunities through the UOW Graduate School of Medicine.
Leadership here is strongly committed to facilitating clinical research. Tangible evidence of this commitment is the significant investment in the infrastructure to support research. There is a well-developed research support unit that offers staff an extensive range of research support services including assistance in the development of the research study design, biostatistics support, data analysis, and help writing final research publications, as well as assistance with the ethics and governance processes.
The Job
  • This is an exciting opportunity for Consultant Anaesthetists to support the development of anaesthetic services
  • You will have the opportunity to support and develop anaesthesia research within the department
  • The hospital has 5 theatres with a busy orthopaedic team including paediatrics hence the position requires paediatric anaesthetic skills
  • Anaesthetists will provide airway support for ICU and Paediatric NICU
  • You will find there are many very unwell patients her, this is not a hospital where you will de-skill.
  • You will join a current team of Anaesthetists predominantly in their 30s and 40s. The team consists of 12 Anaesthetists supported by 4-6 Registrars.
  • The on-call is likely 1:7 and working ~ 3.5dpw on average. If you are rostered on call e.g.: on a Tuesday evening, you’re not rostered to work Wednesday.
Rewards
  • Salary from $262,376 - $354,479 plus superannuation plus allowances
  • This position is eligible for up to $10,000 in incentives under the Rural Health Workforce Incentives Scheme for Staff Specialists.
  • Staff Specialists also have access to: Training, Education and Study Leave (TESL) – $38,000 and 25 calendar days per year (available to part-time and full-time eligible employees)
  • Salary packaging – less tax and more take-home pay i.e. relocation expenses (eligible employees)

Requirements
  • Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (FANZCA) or equivalent
