About the Role

The EN at CGHS will deliver a high standard of evidence based nursing care under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse (RN). The EN assumes responsibility for their own practice based upon their level of educational preparation and competence (scope of practice). The EN is expected to demonstrate the core nursing values of patient centred care, trust and respect in every interaction with patients, colleagues and visitors.
There is an expectation that the EN will involve the patient and significant others in implementing the plan of care and liaise with all members of the health care team. This will occur within the principles of care coordination, where patients/clients/residents have access to a highly coordinated health care and community support system

Duties

  • Ensure a delivery of a high standard of patient/client care including assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation for care in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team and the RN. This includes the phases of patient/client admission and planning for effective discharge.
  • Develop a shift by shift plan as to how patient/client care will be delivered, in collaboration with the RN, which will include prioritisation of the delivery of nursing treatments and care.
  • Accept responsibility for own actions and seek guidance when situations exceed the level of experience or scope for practice of the EN.
  • Inform the RN in Charge as soon as possible of any significant or complex patient /client care issues.
  • Effectively participate in the “Hardwiring for Excellence” quality care process e.g. hourly rounding.
  • Assume responsibility and accountability for patients/clients delegated by the RN whilst maintaining Scope of Practice. The RN will also demonstrate an understanding of the Scope of Practice of the EN when delegating and allocating nursing activities.

  • Enrolled Nurse holding current registration with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia.
