The Location:
Located on a pristine coast line this city has a population of 20,000 residents and well developed infrastructure with a vibrant shopping district that spills onto the beach for seafood and coffee. The local countryside is renowned for its produce. You can buy award winning cheese at the factory outlet and taste whisky at the cellar door. There are restaurants to linger in and well stocked delis to tempt you with gourmet treats.

The Facility:
As part of the state wide health service you will be located in this modern 160 bed facility providing high quality health care to the local region. The hospital also offers services in medical, surgical and allied health specialties through inpatient and outpatient departments. The hospital has a strong relationship with the University of Tasmania's Rural Clinical School, and the secondary care facilities are both associated teaching hospitals with contemporary teaching environments.

The 8 bed ICU is led by an Intensivist who is a Fellow of the College of Intensive Care Medicine (CICM), and clinical care is provided by fully qualified Intensivists who are fellows of the CICM with a 24/7 on-call cover arrangement. The unit possesses state-of-the-art equipment to provide advanced mechanical ventilation, continuous renal replacement, haemodynamic monitoring, echocardiography, ultrasound guided procedures, bronchoscopy and other ICU therapies.  

The Role:
The unit is accredited by College of Intensive Care Medicine (CICM) for Foundation and Rural training in Intensive Care Medicine and is approved to train CICM candidates under Commonwealth-funded IRTP and TMSDT programs.  

Doctors who are not in a training stream (Unaccredited Registrars/Senior Residents) and wanting hands-on experience with high-acuity Intensive Care are also welcome to apply.  
Fixed Term full time commencing August 2024 - August 2025

Your Profile:

  • Either hold or be eligible for registration with AHPRA
  • For on shore doctors have at least 6 months ICU experience
  • For overseas doctors have at least 48 months ICU experience
  • Have a significant interest in building your career in Intensive Care Medicine
