Key competencies (role specific criteria)

You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the following key capabilities, knowledge and experience. Within the context of the responsibilities described above under ‘Your role', the ideal applicant will be someone who can demonstrate the following:

  • Experience in or the ability to rapidly learn pre-analytical processes, e.g. sorting, coding, data entry, aliquoting, parcel management, etc, in a large and complex specimen reception unit.
  • Proven ability to solve problems and show initiative in the workplace.
  • High level leadership skills and a demonstrated willingness to succeed.
  • Proven ability to manage time effectively.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to meet and exceed client expectations.
  • Highly developed customer focus with experience dealing with a variety of people and a high level of awareness of impact of the individual on the overall customer experience.
  • Sound understanding of laboratory quality systems and the requirements of NATA accreditation and ISO certification.
  • Awareness of the human resource management policies applicable to contemporary workplaces.

Qualifications, registrations, and other requirements

  • Please detail any visa conditions you may have if you are not a permanent resident of Australia.
  • We understand that some people may require adjustments to the workplace or the way the work is performed. All applicants are encouraged to advise the panel of any support or reasonable adjustments (i.e. building access, wheelchair access, interpreting services etc.) that may be required.
  • It may be a requirement to work at Robina Campus periodically with discussion via the Hiring manager.
  • While not mandatory, a Certificate III or IV in Pathology Assistance or the equivalent would be an advantage
  • May be required to participate in all rostered shifts which may include days, afternoon, overnights, weekends and public holidays covering 24hrs a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. There may be a requirement for after hours on call at times.
  • May be required to be available for afterhours support.

Vaccine Preventable Diseases (VPD) requirements

  • It will be a condition of employment for this role for the employee to be, and remain, vaccinated against one or more of the following vaccine preventable diseases during their employment: Hepatitis A & B, Measles, Mumps, Pertussis, Rubella and Varicella.
  • Additional vaccinations including Japanese Encephalitis and Rabies may also be required for this position.
  • Existing staff that are engaged prior to 1 July 2016 are not subject to this condition of employment unless they apply for a role with VPD requirements that is with a different Queensland Health entity (i.e. one HHS to another HHS, department to a HHS, or HHS to department).
