Speech-Language Pathologist (Job No. ABC-0001-24/25)

Speech Language Pathologist

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Site Supervisor, the Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) plays an integral role in supporting ABC Head Start’s mission and vision for children with communication development and challenges. The SLP is responsible for the provision of service for students requiring development on areas including but not limited to speech and language delays/disorders, swallowing, and feeding disorders, cognitive-communication disorder, and pre-literacy/literacy skills.

Key Aspects of the Role:

•Assessments of children as identified by Family Engagement workers during intake phase, for purpose of diagnosis and treatment planning using standardize tools

•Serve as a positive role model by demonstrating and promoting skill-building support for interdisciplinary team members and families/caregivers to foster a collaborative and empathetic environment

•Review and/or revise goals for children that promote continuous growth and improvement

•Parent and Family Engagement through the development and facilitation of workshops to promote resilience through informed practices

•Staff development and training to enhance classroom capacity by modelling interventions and provide in-service training

•Caseload management support during staff absences, if required

Qualifications and Experience:

•Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology

•Current member in good standing (or eligibility) with Alberta College of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists

•Valid First Aid/CPR Certification

•Experience working with preschool aged children (asset)

•Experience working with vulnerable populations (asset)

•Experience with and knowledge of complex needs (ASD, FAS, Global Delays, hearing loss)

•Experience providing classroom-based services

•Experience with implementing and coaching use of Augmentative and Alternative Communication device (asset)

•Experience supporting and/or supervising Speech-Language Assistants

•Knowledge of Trauma Informed Care (asset)

•Commitment to promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion in education

Other Information:

•As the workload and operational requirements shift, it may be required that you change locations, dates, and/or hours of work.

•A security clearance with vulnerable sector completed is required for all newly hired employees.

•Child intervention check is required for all newly hired employees.

•Standard first aid certification required within 30 days of employment.

•Safe Management training through the employer will be required within one year of employment.

•Availability to work Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00am and 5:00pm.
