Fleet Safety Advisor

Your Opportunity:

Description: Motor Vehicle Incident Investigation: Perform the duties as delegated lead investigator for Motor Vehicle Incidents as per the Workplace Health and Safety Incident Reporting and Investigation Standard. Collaborate with the Fleet supervisors and Coordinators in the 5 zones to make sure all Motor Vehicle Incidents are correctly and accurately reported. Determine the level of investigation that is required using best judgement. Conduct interviews with the staff involved and review any witness statements. Collect all required documentation associated with the motor vehicle incident. Determine the sequence of events leading up to the incident. Perform a root cause analysis utilizing the 5 whys technique or equivalent within the timeframe allotted by policy. Develop Corrective actions resulting from the incident investigations. Communicate learnings and results of the incident with the affected employees and Senior leadership as required. Communicate with other enforcement agencies as required regarding the motor vehicle incident.

Reporting and Analysis: Ensure EHS incident reports are complete and accurate as required by the Health Services Act. Communicate findings of motor vehicle incidents to the Joint Workplace Health and Safety Committee. Report Motor Vehicle Incident investigation finding to AHS insurance.

Computer Based Continuing Education: Present opportunities for quality improvement to the Professional Driver Improvement Course. Manage the development of micro training courses in collaboration with the Learning and Development Team and outside agencies.

Driver Training Reviews (In Vehicle): Create a remedial vehicle operator safety training plan for High-Risk Drivers based on corrective action identified by the root cause investigation.

Required Qualifications:
  • Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC) or equivalent.
  • Undergraduate degree, diploma or certificate in Safety, law enforcement or equivalent program or a combination of education and 5 years of progressive fleet safety experience in the field of driver training, collision investigation and regulatory compliance with large fleet organizations.
  • Intermediate to advanced skill level with the Microsoft suite of products such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Level 2 Collision Analyst Certification.
Additional Required Qualifications:
  • Experience and knowledge of Alberta Traffic Safety Act, associated regulations and the Occupational Health and Safety act.
  • Broad range of knowledge in the operation of emergency vehicles.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ practical experience in conducting interviews including strong team skills, flexible, excellent analytical and communication (verbal and written) skills.
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in preventative or corrective safety work for Fleet Operations.
  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience with the operation of emergency vehicles.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Certification as a Professional Driver Improvement Course (PDIC)/Defensive Driving Course (DDC) instructor.
  • Formal training in the field of adult instruction or education.
  • Level 3 or 4 Collision Analyst Certification.
  • Experience conducting MVI investigations and working in a unionized environment are preferred assets.
  • Knowledge of Ground Ambulance Regulation and associated Code.
  • History of building strong working relationships with leadership, staff and the Transportation industry.
