Safety Specialist

Job Description

Raise is hiring a Safety Specialist for Our Client, a Canadian global leader in exploration, mine engineering, and environmental protection. This position is a seven (7) month contract based out of Saskatoon, supporting Northern Saskatchewan projects. We are actively seeking talented professionals like you to drive these crucial initiatives forward.

Fly In Fly Out Camp accommodation provided.

Rotation (2 weeks in-2 weeks out, 11 hours a day)

Description

The Safety Specialist ensures that construction activities comply with safety, health, environment, and quality (SHEQ) requirements and monitors daily activities to identify hazardous conditions and implementation of safe work procedures.

Role Accountabilities:
  • Work closely with the construction management team (CMT) and contractors.
  • Responsible for ensuring all safety, health, and environmental procedures and work instructions are followed.
  • Conduct workplace inspections with CMT, focusing on behavioral observations.
  • Reviews field level risk assessments (FLRAs) and daily contact cards for quality adherence.
  • May conduct and monitor SHEQ related training for construction management team (CMT) personnel and contractors and assess qualifications of construction contractor personnel.
  • Participate in job hazard assessments, safety meetings, toolbox meetings, constructability reviews, project kick-off meetings, upon request.
  • Conducts daily and weekly job site inspections as per procedure.
  • Identifies and reviews various health and safety concerns specific to the work site.
  • Investigates injuries, accidents, and near misses as per site corrective action processes.
  • Ensure timely notification occurs of significant events.
  • Monitors quality of incident investigations and ensures effective and appropriate corrective actions are implemented in a timely manner.
Qualifications:

Previous experience in a safety specialist role within the construction industry (minimum 4 years for intermediate, 10+ years for senior).

CSO Designation

Strong understanding of safety regulations, industry best practices, and SHEQ management system.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with diverse team members.

Proficient in conducting workplace inspections and identifying potential hazards.

Experience in investigating incidents and contributing to the development of corrective action plans.

Experience with conducting regular workplace inspections! Ability to deliver safety training programs or presentations (desired).

Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively.

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
