Main duties of the job

Our award-winning paediatric research team is now looking for an experienced paediatric nurse to join the team.

We have 1, Band 6, full-time Paediatric Research Sister post available based in the NIHR Clinical Research Facility at University Hospital Southampton. This role will provide regular contact with children and their families and will involve research that will make a real difference in future patient care. 

Our Paediatric Research Team consists of 25 Research Nurses, Clinical Research Practitioners and Clinical Trials Assistants, working together to bring exciting research opportunities to the UHS for the benefit of our patients. 

The paediatric research nursing teamwork across all specialities within The Children’s Hospital and out in the community, with regular contact with patients and healthy volunteers that will make a real difference to future patient care.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

What we are looking for:-

Registered Paediatric Nurse
•    Extensive post-registration experience, including considerable senior band 5 experience in 
        clinical research.
•    Recent management experience.
•    Excellent interpersonal communication, organisation and time management skills.
•    Ability to work independently both in the CRF and within the community.
•    Be able to lead, motivate and inspire teamwork.
•    Demonstrate resilience and be adaptable to differing demands.
•    Able to work flexible hours including shifts and night duty rotation
•    Evidence of teaching and supporting learners in practice

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

The post holder will be a car driver, with a full driving license and must be willing to travel to various locations in and around Southampton.  

Full or Part-time hours will be considered for the right candidate.

Our core hours are Monday- Friday 8-4, however, we do have research studies that require working evenings/nights and weekends. 

Please note this is a clinical patient-facing role based within the CRF at University Hospital Southampton. 

Person specification

Qualifications / training required

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse on relevant part of the NMC register
  • Educated to or working towards Degree level
  • Evidence of on-going professional / academic development
  • Mentorship qualification (or evidence of meeting the outcomes of the NMC standards)
  • Clinical Skills certification relevant to role and specialty
Desirable criteria
  • Specialist qualification.
  • Degree in healthcare or biomedical science subject
  • Certification Leadership or management course

Previous or relevant experience necessary

Essential criteria
  • Extensive post registration experience, including considerable senior band 5 experience in clinical research or a relevant clinical speciality
  • Knowledge and experience within a relevant / acute healthcare / NHS setting
  • Understanding of personal accountability
  • Logical and consistent work and career pattern
  • Recent management or leadership experience
  • Interest in Clinical Research.
  • Knowledge of the UK Policy Framework for Health and Social Care Knowledge of International Conference on Harmonisation/Good Clinical Practice (ICH/GCP)
  • Provide evidence of teaching and supporting learners in practice
Desirable criteria
  • Interest in Clinical Research
  • Experience as an NMC / HCPC sign-off mentor or clinical practice assessor
  • Experience of leading the delivery of a clinical research project
  • Experience of being a link nurse (e.g. infection prevention, Manual handling, fire warden, etc)
  • Demonstrate ability to liaise / collaborate with MD

Special requirements of the post

Desirable criteria
  • Experience with Research IT systems (EDGE, ODP)
  • Experience with electronic data capture systems

Getting to Work

Application can be made for parking on site at UHS or through one of the park and ride schemes. This will be based on specific criteria to determine eligibility for site parking as this can be very limited.  UHS encourages staff to utilise other green methods of getting to work such as cycling or walking where possible. UHS is well connected through bus services to the city centre and other areas.
