SUB-SPECIALTY TRAINEE IN PAEDIATRIC EMERGENCY MEDICINE 

Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital 

(Rotating to Royal Hospital for Children, Glasgow) 

Applications are invited for a year’s additional training to sub-specialise in Paediatric Emergency Medicine (PEM) which will include:

Six months of Paediatric Emergency Medicine based in the Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital       (RACH) Emergency DepartmentThree months of Medical Paediatrics based in RACH Three months of Paediatric Critical Care based in the Royal Hospital for Children Glasgow (RHCG)   

The post is available from 7th August 2024 for a period of 12 months. It is expected that the applicant will be able to work as a Registrar in Paediatrics within an Emergency Department (including Resus), Medical Ward and Critical Care setting. It is also expected that the applicant is an existing higher trainee in Emergency Medicine and holds a National Training Number (NTN)

The Emergency Department at Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital, where the successful applicant will be based for 50% of the post, is a supportive one for trainees and we run a successful self-rostering system with protected regional teaching and Educational Development Time. Consultants are on the shop floor from 08:00 to 02:00 and on site on call from 02:00 - 08:00.  You will have the opportunity to develop interests in a wide variety of skills. The Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital is a recognised regional Major Trauma Centre in the North of Scotland served by a Pre-hospital Retrieval team and where you will see a range of complex trauma management. Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital provides all specialist care for children up to the age of 16 years in the Grampian Region and the Orkney and Shetland Islands. Royal Hospital for Children Glasgow is one of two centres in Scotland providing Paediatric Critical Care and Retrieval as part of a national network.
