About your opportunity

Permanent part-time / 60.8 hours per fortnight / commencing from 1st July 2024 

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) is the most senior and expert clinical nurse within the Palliative Care Service team of the Townsville Hospital and Health Service.

The NP will primarily provide expert palliative advice to the Palliative Care Outreach Service and as part of the consultation service within the Townsville University Hospital (TUH). They will be required to initiate, implement, and monitor relevant interventional therapies and interpret diagnostic pathology as part of the role. This also includes the authority to prescribe medications and initiate referrals to other healthcare professionals.

The Nurse Practitioner will be required to complete THHS credentialing at commencement of their role, it is then a requirement to be completed 3 yearly.

  • Establish consistent and effective lines of communication across primary, secondary and tertiary care providers utilising multi-modal communication pathways.
  • Provide strong leadership to motivate the multidisciplinary team to achieve agreed healthcare goals within designated timeframes; ensure follow-up to capture satisfaction and goal outcomes
  • Provide clinical management and leadership through role modelling, mentoring and leading positive change; contributing to educational programs that keep healthcare practitioners informed and committed to the importance of coordination and flow in a patient centred care journey.
  • Demonstrated leadership proficiency through the articulation of team engagement principles and personal attributes that influence a positive team culture and achieve active collaboration across multidiscipline services.
  • Ability to promote engagement by self and others in professional development and maintain own professional development portfolio.

Generous remuneration package value up to $142,657 p.a. comprising:

  • Salary range of $75.27 to $78.59 p.h. (Nurse Grade 8)
  • Annual leave with 17.5% loading
  • 12.75% employer contribution to superannuation.

Requirements

  • Master of Nursing Science (Nurse Practitioner) or equivalent certification relevant to the position is mandatory.
  • Proof of qualification, registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and possession of a current practising certificate.
  • Highly Desirable: Possession of a relevant postgraduate qualification in an appropriate field is highly desirable. Such experience may be discipline specific or have a service area focus.
  • Highly Desirable: Extensive experience in Palliative Care
  • This is a Vaccine Preventable Diseases (VPD) risk role: Hepatitis A/B, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, and Pertussis.
