The Role:
We are seeking a Consultant/Specialist/Senior Specialist - Acute Medical Unit to join supportive team in a large teaching hospital. A new, state-of-the-art Critical Services!!
The AMU service sits within the Division of Medicine governance structure.  There is opportunity for joint roles, to give applicants a flexible job plan and work in other complementary areas within the Division. As such, the AMU role may be combined with other options such as also working in General Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Hospital in the Home or other sub-specialty units according to the availability of positions and success in relevant recruitment processes.

The Hospital:
The Hospital is a modern 600+ bed tertiary trauma and referral hospital providing services to a population of 500,000. The hospital provides services in all specialties except major burns, spinal injuries and solid organ transplantation. There are accredited training programs in all major specialties.
 
The Location:
This City is extremely clean, tidy, efficient, safe and low crime compared to just about any other city. Very "outdoor" and "environmentally" focused and truly unique in that you have this CBD with excellent work opportunities literally set amongst stunning bush land that is always only a 5 min walk away from anywhere. If you love bushwalking, cycling, exploring, being active etc then it's a win win.
 
The climate is favourable – having four seasons is a treat – and the air is fresh, only two hours from the beach, two hours to the snow and a little longer drive for those big city experiences. Direct International flights operating from the local airport, making travelling abroad easy too.
 
Skills & Qualifications Required:
Applicants should have had training and experience in the management of adults with acute medical conditions requiring hospital level management. The successful applicant will work in a multidisciplinary clinical environment with a team of nursing, allied health and medical staff. This includes Advanced and Basic Physician Trainees in General Medicine and prevocational doctors who are involved in well-developed post graduate teaching programs.
Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (preferably with General Medicine accreditation, although relevant specialty accreditation will be considered) or an equivalent higher specialist qualification.
The successful applicant will need to be available for weekend and after-hours work.

  • Highly developed leadership and interpersonal skills
  • Extensive experience in General Paediatrics
  • Experience and commitment to clinical teaching
  • Experience and commitment to quality improvement
