Main duties of the job

We are pleased to invite candidates to apply for the Band 7 Theatre Practitioner (RGN / RODP) role working in the Surgical Unit at Lymington Hospital (UHS NHS) Trust. Based within Lymington New Forest Hospital, a community hospital which opened in 2007, the Surgical Theatres and Day Ward are modern and welcoming for patients and staff alike. There is also green space around the hospital grounds that staff can use during breaks. Being part of a small team, staff work closely together, helping and supporting each other, working closely with UHS main site.

We are located within the New Forest National Park, an ideal location for outdoor enthusiasts. The majestic surroundings make the New Forest ideal for walking, running and cycling etc with hundreds of miles of trails and tracks to follow. It is close to Lymington River, Harbour and the Solent which makes it a perfect location for water sports. Bournemouth is just a short drive away where you will also find hill walks, clifftop views and sandy beaches.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

What you'll do - 

We are seeking a highly motivated, professional and caring Registered Nurse or Operating Department Practitioner to join our Theatre leadership team. Lymington Surgical Unit comprises of the Surgical Outpatients Department with minor procedure treatment facilities, Pre-Assessment, Day Surgical Ward and Theatre Suite.
We cover a range of surgical specialities for day surgical patients including General Surgery, Urology, Gynae, Colorectal, Orthopaedics and Ophthalmology. As well as minor procedures in MaxFax, Dermatology and Orthopaedics. Experience in any of these areas is desirable but training will be provided.
Experience in the theatre environment in Anaesthetics, Scrub and/or Recovery is essential however relevant training will be provided in the unit.  Lymington Surgical Unit is currently a Monday to Friday Services Monday to Friday 8am to 6pm. There is the potential of development in the future to extended days and weekend clinical activity.

You should have proven leadership and management skills along with a flexible approach and the ability to work on your own initiative. Attention to detail and good communication are also essential as you will be leading a team and dealing with patients, relatives and staff from across the Trust within a number of disciplines. This post is for 18.75 hours and is part of a job share with another experienced band 7 with years or NHS and theatre/recovery experience.  The full range of shifts can be discussed during an informal visit or during interview.

  • 1st Level Registered nurse on relevant part of the NMC Register
  • Recognised mentorship qualification and experience as a Sign Off mentor
  • Degree or working towards
  • Completion of appropriate specialty Course
  • Higher Education Institute approved course in supporting learners in practice.  Supporting a range of learners in practice  Supporting colleagues to promote effective learning in practice
  • Extensive experience in specialty to include considerable experience at Band 6 level

Getting to Work

Application can be made for parking on site at UHS or through one of the park and ride schemes. This will be based on specific criteria to determine eligibility for site parking as this can be very limited.  UHS encourages staff to utilise other green methods of getting to work such as cycling or walking where possible. UHS is well connected through bus services to the city centre and other areas.
