About you:

You are a qualified Physiotherapist with demonstrated high level of clinical expertise in cerebral palsy and/or rehabilitation and the management applied to coordination and assessment of children in a range of health facilities and outreach services, for the purposes of a research study, ability to develop effective professional networks and act as a resource person within the area of cerebral palsy research and ability to initiate, plan, implement and evaluate research activities within the broader context of the Queensland Cerebral Palsy and Rehabilitation Research Centre.

Your opportunity: 

Be responsible for coordination and implementation of a research program in North Queensland and the provision of physiotherapy assessments and interventions for infants and children participating in research within the Queensland Cerebral Palsy and Rehabilitation Research Centre. This research program aims to detect Cerebral Palsy earlier and to conduct local and outreach training and knowledge translation to improve early detection of Cerebral Palsy. Operate with a high level of independence in developing, planning, and implementing research methodologies for targeted research programs including recruiting patients to participate in research studies. Provide a high level of clinical knowledge and skills, regarding the complex nature of cerebral palsy in general, and the allied health management of children with cerebral palsy.

Your role:

  • Utilise high level paediatric physiotherapy skills to develop, plan, implement and report research methodologies within a targeted research program of the Queensland Cerebral Palsy and Rehabilitation Research Centre (QCPRRC) and contribute expert knowledge to initiate, plan, implement and evaluate research activities outside of the present research project.
  • Apply high level problem solving and critical thinking skills daily to support independent clinical reasoning and professional judgement in choosing and administering appropriate assessments,
  • maintaining and reporting databases and interpreting assessment findings, provide evidence-based and family-centred paediatric assessment and practice within a multidisciplinary team, to children with cerebral palsy and their families participating in the study, and complete reports to feedback outcomes to families and/or their designated clinicians.
  • Provide education and consultation to health professionals and others working with children with cerebral palsy to coordinate and implement recruitment of children to the study and to advocate for referral for appropriate services for these children according to best practice guidelines.
